The idyllic landscape loses its charm when unexplained phenomena occur in the cottage, suggesting\u2014according to the old woman\u2014the presence of a demon from folklore. Ewa initially suspects her grandmother of mild dementia, but when she finds a knife stuck in her bed, she becomes seriously afraid of the old woman. Once close, the women now closely guard their secrets.
