The world in which Rita grows up is a place of decay not only of raw materials but also of interpersonal relationships. In this near, yet familiar future, only humanoids and Rita remain immune to the corrosive effects of compost. The girl becomes a hope for the regeneration of society when she discovers the gift of healing with her voice. Her father, a genetic engineer, begins to use her for research, and her mother to promote her art. However, the prestige her parents crave doesn't compensate for Rita's lack of love. In rebellion, she falls silent, leading to the disintegration of her family and offering the heroine a chance for freedom. Before she chooses her mother, she puts her mother to the test to heal their relationship.
