SYNOPSIS

1894. Julian FAŁAT (41), court painter to the Prussian Emperor, has had enough of Berlin and wants to return to Poland, but the Emperor won't let him go. Wojciech KOSSAK (38) is suffocating in provincial Kraków, dreaming of a global career and big money.

Fałat proposes that Kossak and his wife paint a panorama for the Emperor. The painter departs for Berlin. Fałat introduces Kossak to the courtly world, secretly hoping that Kossak will succeed him at court.

Emperor Kossak's fascination soon takes on an erotic character. Simultaneously, an artistic and personal conflict arises and intensifies between the painters. They cannot stand each other, but they must complete the project.
