On the day Bu (7) begins to suspect his parents will split up, wings sprout from his back, and he announces he's in love with their best friend, Aunt Sofia (24). His young parents, Maggie (24) and Jo (24), must understand what's really going on in the boy's imagination. During a "date" with his aunt that they arrange for him, they discover that it's not him, but Maggie, who has been infatuated with her friend for years. "Aunt Sofia" is a subtle and surreal drama about a (young) family that, though in love, was formed too quickly and must fall apart before being reborn. Wings are a symbol that each family member understands differently. They are a tool for flight. But they also remind them of the burden of responsibility and the past. They are like a blank, unwritten page. And like a small butterfly in their stomach.
